Description

The goal of this Module is to provide students with access to the world class HR research being conducted within DCU Business School and across our global network. The module will raise student's awareness of emerging trends and controversies in HR practice and how research can inform their organizations' responses to these challenges The module will equip students to evaluate this research and assess implications for practice. Students' research skills will also be enhanced through interaction with researchers concerning tradeoffs and challenges in the research process.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe current trends and issues in HR research
2. Assess the potential contribution of HR academic research to organisational practice
3. Analyse and critique theory and research on HRM, and convert theory and research into practice
4. Demonstrate understanding of the key tradeoffs faced by HR researchers in designing research studies
5. Apply your understanding of contemporary HR issues to evaluate the challenges and opportunities of managing people in organisations

EssayStudents will submit an essay or case study which explores one of the topics covered in the module in depth, demonstrating the strengths and limitations of that research in devising solutions to a practical HR problem from their organisational experience.80%n/a
AssignmentStudents will use LOOP Forum to submit five short analyses of the practice implications of the all of the Research Topics except the one chosen for their Essay/Case Study. Each analysis will be a maximum of 300 words in the form of a email to the leadership team of their current organisation, or one with which they are familiar, summarising the practical implications of the research reported in each case.20%n/a

Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories;
RC1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.

* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment
