Description

The purpose of this module is to provide the student with an opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to become a lifelong personal and professional learner and to have an understanding of research and its relevance to nursing practice. The module will assist in building nurses’ digital capability relating to digital health legislation, e-portfolios for professional development and sourcing information for evidence based practice. The core values and concepts fundamental to nursing practice will also be offered. This module is delivered through a combination of lectures, digital case simulations, academic writing tutorials and library workshops.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the values and concepts fundamental to nursing and identify how these values and concepts are expressed and applied in nursing practice.
2. Understand the importance of professional development and maintaining a professional development record demonstrating reflection upon skills and experience, to help monitor professional identity.
3. Has an understanding of digital health legislation, policy and ethics, including privacy and security, and professional conduct as it relates to nursing practice.
4. Develop skills in the use of the library to source and critically evaluate information to support evidence-based decision making for nursing practice.
5. Understand how to apply the conventions of academic writing including referencing skills, effective study skills and habits to promote lifelong personal and professional development.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts underpinning nursing research and its relevance to nursing practice.

Group project Using the VoiceThreads application in groups of 5/6 students are asked to; 1. identify a specific nursing challenge or area of practice that could be improved through the use of digital skills and generative AI. 2. Research and Analyse: Conduct research to understand the current state of digital skills and generative AI applications in nursing. Analyse the potential benefits, limitations, and ethical considerations of the identified solutions. 3. Develop a Solution Plan: Develop a comprehensive plan to implement a digital/AI-based solution to address the identified nursing challenge. 4. Gain insight into individual learning style and understand how to apply effective study skills and habits to promote lifelong learning both professionally and personally. Maintaining a professional development record demonstrating reflection upon skills and experience, to help monitor professional identity.
