Description
This module will use a biopsychosocial perspective to explore the treatment and nursing management of patients with disorders of the reproductive, renal, neurological and integumentary systems. The delivery of care will be considered from a person centred perspective underpinned by the self-management support approach. The module is delivered through a combination of face to face lectures, clinical skills practice sessions and online group tutorials.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing management for patients/clients with conditions relating to the renal, reproductive, neurological and integumentary systems using a person centred approach to care. 2. Observe and then practice the clinical skills deemed necessary for the nursing management of the above patient groups 3. Gain an understanding of the pharmacology associated with the nursing management of the above patient groups. 4. Explore the nurses' role in promoting health in relation to the above patient/client group underpinned by the self-management support approach.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Biological aspects of disease Biological aspects of disease and particular conditions affecting the reproductive, renal, neurological and integumentary systems.
Management of nursing care Assessment strategies, care planning and evaluation of care.
Care of the patient with regard to skin integrity Promotion of skin integrity, care of the patient with an acute or chronic wound, wound cleaning and dressing, removal of sutures and clips, the management of pressure area care.
Fluid and Electrolytes Fluid and electrolyte balance and disturbances.
Fundamental concepts.
Fluid volume disturbances: Hypovolaemia & Hypervolaemia
Electrolyte imbalances
Relevant cognitive, affective and psycho-motor skills. Observation of demonstration and practice of nursing skills undertaken in the Clinical Education Centre
Pharmaceutical interventions. Linkage with co requistite Pharmacology in Nursing module (NS204) with regard to the relevant pharmacological interventions
Teamwork, communication & collaboration in nursing practice: Focus will be on working effectively as a member of the nursing and multidisciplinary team. This will include the importance of effective communication and collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team and community care team.
Relevant health promotion issues and strategies Explore the nurses' role in promoting health in relation to the above patient/client group underpinned by the self-management support approach.
Psychological and social aspects of disease and nursing care Explore the social and psychological aspects of acute and chronic health conditions and gain understanding of potential impact on patients
