Description

The aim of this module is to enable students to develop a critical understanding and critical knowledge base of the requirements of children with complex healthcare needs. The module also aims to develop and expand the skills and knowledge required to assess, plan and deliver evidence based care to the child with complex health care needs, in partnership with the child, family and interdisciplinary team.

Learning Outcomes

1. Analyse the role of the children's nurse in relation to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care to children with healthcare needs in community and healthcare settings.
2. Examine the rationale for the delivery of evidence based care to children with a variety of healthcare needs in all healthcare settings.
3. Appraise the application of evidence based nursing care to children with healthcare needs
4. Demonstrate a knowledge of collaborative working within an interdisciplinary team.
5. Explore the health education and health promotion needs of the child.

Child and family health education and community care
Health education and disease prevention. Care of child and family within the community.

Child and family health promotion
Models of health promotion, accident prevention, obesity prevention and management, sepsis management, the application of information and communications technology in healthcare, now generally known as health informatics.
