Description
The module will enable students to integrate nursing knowledge and practice and develop confidence and independence in care decisions and care delivery within their scope of practice. It will also provide students with the opportunity to consolidate nursing knowledge and experience in preparation for transition from student to staff nurse.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Delivery of Nursing Care Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care (core and complex) provided to the child and his/her family. Apply knowledge of evidence based research to their nursing practice. Students should show progression in decision making and develop independence in care delivery and case load management.
Maintain a safe environment Students will engage in safe nursing practice as a core element of quality child and family focused care.
Communication Communicate effectively with child, familiy and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Age appropriate and culturally sensitive communication skills will be developed.
Child Development Develop an understanding of child development theories. Recognise and respond to the developmental needs of children in their care.
Health Education and Health Promotion Participate in health education and promotion activities relevant to the practice setting.
Specialist Practice Participate with specialist nurse / midwife / public health nurse in delivery of specialist care. Observe and question the specialist nurse / midwife about what they do and why they do it.
