Module Title Physics for Science Teachers 1
Module Code PHY1038 (ITS: PS220)
Faculty Physical Sciences School Science & Health
NFQ level 8 Credit Rating 5
Description

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to the physics topic of mechanics. The module aims to help students develop their understanding of concepts and applications of physics, their ability to confidently handle physics problems using algebra-based methods, and to develop transferable laboratory and communication skills.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe and apply basic physical concepts as they relate to mechanics
2. Solve numerical problems in mechanics
3. Describe, apply and explain in detail the concepts of speed and acceleration, force, work and energy, impulse and momentum
4. Explain the physical principles which underpin associated laboratory experiments

Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories;
RC1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.

* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment
