Module Title Political Communication: INTRA Placement
Module Code POL1011 (ITS: CM5965)
Faculty Communications School Humanities & Social Sciences
NFQ level 9 Credit Rating 5
Description

In this module students apply knowledge and skills learned during the MA Political Communication Programme in an employment environment and critically reflect on their experience. INTRA formally integrates the student's academic study with closely co-ordinated realistic jobs, based on the work abilities of the student and the objectives of each programme. The student develops an understanding of the professional, practical world of industry. The blending of theory and practice also increases student motivation and allows a clearer view of a career path. Students will typically be based in a workplace relevant to the MA Political Communication programme for a two to three month period. Those currently in related employment will – subject to approval of their employer and the MAP Programme Chair – use this workplace for their INTRA. Students who do not obtain an industry placement may be offered the possibility of working on a related research project.

Learning Outcomes

1. Synthesise the learning from the MA Programme and apply that knowledge to real-life environments
2. Apply university-acquired knowledge and critical thinking to the work placement;
3. Reflect on learning outcomes from a critical event(s) during the module and relate to a work environment;
4. Critically evaluate their contribution to the workplace and reflect constructively on their own development and skills.
