Description

Module Aims: • To provide a practical and professional complementary aspect to the student’s academic study of psychology and mathematics. • To provide the opportunity to see how psychology and mathematics can be integrated into professional and social situations • To offer students the opportunity to gain personal and professional skills relevant to the pursuit of graduate employment and further training or study.

Learning Outcomes

1. Critically evaluate how the combined and differential roles of Psychology and Mathematics in their work placement can be integrated to examine diverse issues in the natural and man-made world
2. Identify, describe and formulate solutions to real-world psychological, financial and mathematical problems
3. Demonstrate awareness of contextual and interpersonal factors in group and team work
4. Demonstrate self-direction and initiative in their own work under the guidance of a supervisor to identify, discuss, evaluate and resolve problems, differences of opinion and general issues as they arise
5. Engage in reflective consideration of personal strengths and weaknesses. Recognition of how their INTRA experience and skills gained may be positively applied to the rest of their academic studies
6. Document their duties, describe their placement organisation and their role(s) while on placement. Gather and report materials using appropriate technological tools (e.g. online portfolios), library resources, database, programming tools, and statistical and analytic software
7. Communicate competently through written and oral means

Assessment Breakdown
Portfolio	On completion of the INTRA programme, each student will be required to compile a detailed portfolio of their experiences while on placement. The INTRA assessment is graded simply as a pass or fail. The assessment is based on three components: 1. Continuous assessment by a Placement Supervisor. 2. Assessment, in consultation with the student and placement supervisor, by an assigned Academic Supervisor from the DCU School of Psychology academic team. 3. Formal written Portfolio: Including an outline of the placement provider, the student’s role, a reflection on personal development and reporting of a piece of work completed while on placement - this to be approved by the supervisors.	80%	n/a
Oral Examination	Students will give a presentation outlining their placement experience to their peers and members of the School Academic staff.	20%	n/a

Reassessment Requirement Type
Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories; RC1: A resit is available for both^* components of the module. RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module. RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element. ^* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

INTRA Placement
INTRA (INtegrated TRAining) is DCU's internship programme. The aim of INTRA is to enrich students' education through real-world

experience, provide a pathway for developing graduate attributes and enhancing employability. INTRA placements will be organised by the DCU Intra Office; Internships are offered in a wide and diverse range of organisations including, (amongst others) health, technology, education, business, media, finance and sports. Students who wish to do placements abroad may be facilitated.
