Description This module aims to foster students' interest and curiosity for both the Spanish language and culture. Students will increase their language awareness and develop their communicative competence in Spanish through analysis of a wide range of linguistic structures and functions. The module's focus on topical social and cultural themes exposes students to a variety of text types, registers, media and viewpoints and consolidates productive, receptive, interactive and intercultural skills. The module builds learners' confidence in the accurate use of specific linguistic features and also assists learners in critical reflection, the effective setting of learning goals, planning of learning, learner autonomy and time management. Learning Outcomes 1. Engage with documents including online texts and artefacts from a variety of different contexts dealing with contemporary issues of particular relevance to second and third level learners of Spanish. 2. Find and understand relevant information in multimodal texts and videos with a satisfactory level of comprehension 3. Produce cohesive texts (creative, factual, formal, informal, etc.) in Spanish on relevant social and cultural themes with accurate use of Spanish grammar and theme-specific vocabulary 4. Show the ability to apply knowledge and control of the language system by completing a number of tasks at text and sentence level 5. Demonstrate (inter-)cultural awareness with regard to conventions and norms in the target culture(s) 6. Show and implement his/her language learning strategies, language awareness and degree of progression in the study of the Spanish language 7.
