Description

This module is designed to deepen students’ specialised language related to business in Spanish. Students will further develop their fluency, vocabulary, oral and written skills. They will also consolidate grammar structures for communication and interaction. The module seeks to introduce and understand sociocultural differences between Hispanic countries and Ireland in the area of business. Materials used in this module are mainly drawn from CEFR level B1+.

Learning Outcomes

1. Analyse and interpret a variety of specialised document, including online texts and artefacts, from a range of socioeconomic contexts
2. Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and control of the language system (lexical, grammatical, semantic and orthographic) by completing a number of tasks
3. Reflect on sociocultural differences between Spain and Ireland
4. Hold a debate on a relevant topic related to business with peers in which meaning is expressed and negotiated
5. Produce written material in support of or against a particular point of view in a logical and well organised manner and using appropriate vocabulary and correct grammatical structures

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Topics will cover aspects such as trade relations, entrepreneurship, business communication, marketing, bank sector, etc.



Students will engage with aural and written stimuli in order to complete associated tasks. These will include interpreting an infographic, watching videos, answering questions and expressing their opinions in relation to a variety of material. Supplementary online exercises will also be used that students complete in their own time and which give automatic feedback and provide links to additional resources.



The purpose of this module is to increase fluency and accuracy in speaking and writing Spanish, with a particular focus on business vocabulary. The module will build on the grammar work carried out in module SP295 by consolidating students understanding of core grammar topics and introducing new grammar elements.
