Description

This module is conducted entirely through Spanish, aims to develop students’ language competence and fluency in written and spoken production at an intermediate level. Students will encounter a variety of texts as well as a range of audio-visual resources in order to develop reading and listening comprehension. Awareness and knowledge of culture and society in Spanish countries are further consolidated. Moreover, teamwork and collaboration will be developed throughout participation on a group project during the semester.

Communicate reasonably confident orally on both familiar topics and some beyond their immediate personal experience, such as societal developments and cultural production in the Spanish-speaking countries. Express their own points of views on these matters, provided that the interlocutor makes an effort to support understanding.

Express him/herself coherently in simple writing on both familiar topics and some beyond his/her immediate personal experience, and show awareness of text type conventions and sociolinguistic appropriateness in a variety of texts such as personal email, online written interactions, reports, news articles etc.

17. Demonstrate a good understanding of intermediate language and structure in order to communicate efficiently in a variety of contexts. Draw on relevant and appropriate vocabulary to express him-herself on topics concerning Spanish-speaking culture, popular culture, and related topics, being able to use communicative strategies, e.g some circumlocutions, to convey the intended message.

Orientative content
By the end of this module you will be able to assess the quality of life in a city of your choice, talk about challenges the future brings, and express wishes, needs and complaints, as well as to propose solutions to a problem in a group debate.
