Description

This module, taught entirely through Spanish, aims to develop students’ language competence and fluency in written and spoken production, as well as collaborative skills online and on a virtual environment at an upper-intermediate level. Students will be instructed with a variety of multimodal activities in order to develop cognitive abilities such as critical thinking and creativity. For example, visiting and experiencing different sensations in different parts of the Spanish speaking world on a VR room. Students will moreover be practising a range of language skills that they may apply in their professional life. All teaching materials in this module are designed at the B2.1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand main points and important details in stories and other narratives from authentic textual and audio-visual sources on selected topics made for a wider audience.
2. Communicate fluently and confident on both familiar topics and some beyond their immediate personal experience, such as societal developments and cultural production in the Spanish-speaking countries. Express their own point of views on these matters, provided that the interlocutor makes an effort to support understanding.
3. Produce straightforward connected texts on a variety of subjects related to the student field of interest, being able to link a series of shorter elements into a linear sequence. Develop the knowledge of text type conventions and sociolinguistic appropriateness in a variety of texts such as personal email, online written interactions, reports etc.
4. Demonstrate a good understanding of intermediate language and structure in order to communicate efficiently in a variety of contexts. Draw on relevant and appropriate vocabulary to express him-herself on topics concerning Spanish-speaking culture, popular culture, and related topics.
5. Demonstrate you can identify and interpret cultural cues appropriately in the target culture.
6. Make adequate use of digital technologies to support self-regulated learning processes, i.e. to monitor and reflect on student own learning, providing evidence of progress.

By the end of the module you will be able to express feelings, agreement and disagreement using different registers of the language. Also, expressing hypothesis, opinions and being able to argue about advantages of disadvantages for taking a course of action.
