Description This module is conducted predominantly through Spanish in line with CEFR A2 level and supporting the aims of the Primary Language Curriculum. Throughout the course, students will perform individual and collaborative tasks to build on existing knowledge and reinforce their communicative competence across listening, speaking, reading and writing, using an action-oriented, task-based approach to develop functional language use in everyday contexts. Students will consolidate intercultural skills that will help them source and critically evaluate information about Spanish-speaking cultures and produce spoken and written texts directed to both Irish and Spanish-speaking audiences. Learning Outcomes 1. Listening & Reading Comprehension: Extract the overall meaning from a variety of multimodal texts dealing with everyday and contemporary topics. 2. Spoken Interaction & Production: Demonstrate effective oral skills in a range of contexts using simple interconnected sentences in both pre-planned and spontaneous situations. 3. Written Production: Produce cohesive texts on matters of personal relevance and outline a written opinion on social and cultural issues. 4. Grammatical Accuracy: Demonstrate control of basic structures of the language as well as increasingly complex grammatical structures appropriately at A2 level (e.g word order in main and subordinate clauses, the use of genders and cases, adjectival endings, verb tenses). 5. Cultural Awareness: Demonstrate awareness of key cultural aspects in Spanish-speaking contexts and compare them with Irish society, especially around social conventions, daily life, current affairs, history and language use. 6. Autonomous Learning & Reflection: Display metacognitive awareness by reflecting on personal progress, identifying learning needs, and adopting strategies to manage and sustain language learning over time. 7.
