Description

Relevant work experience is a central feature of education at DCU and an integral part of all undergraduate degree programmes. The INTRA programme for the BSc Sport Science and Health provides six-months of paid (where possible), relevant work experience to students. It takes place in the February-July period of the third year of the programme.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate to their INTRA employer that their performance in the placement was satisfactory.
2. Demonstrate to the INTRA Tutor that they have fulfilled the requirements of the placement satisfactorily.
3. Reflect on and evaluate the INTRA placement and its contribution to their personal development and career planning.
4. Demonstrate ongoing awareness of one's strengths, as well as areas that require development
5. Demonstrate a growth mindset when engaging with challenges and opportunities
6. Reflect on past experiences, both successes and failures, and extract useful insights

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Work Placement
The BSc Sport Science and Health INTRA programme is designed to provide degree-relevant work experience with employers in Ireland and overseas. The main purpose of the placement is to give students an opportunity to apply their of sport and/or exercise science knowledge in real life working situations, thereby gaining practical skills. Other benefits include: gaining confidence, assist with career decision making, develop valuable employment contacts, increase motivation for academic work by clarifying the relationship between work and programme content.
