Description

This module is designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical competencies to design and deliver effective S&C programs in both performance and recreational exercise settings. Students will be introduced to the basic principles of strength and conditioning that underpin effective training strategies

Learning Outcomes

1. Reflect on the fundamental principles of strength and conditioning for health & performance
2. Recognise the key technical elements and make recommendations to enhance performance in a variety of multi-joint exercises, jumping, landing, changing direction and sprinting
3. Differentiate between suitable training strategies for affecting change in aerobic and anaerobic fitness for health and performance
4. Perform a needs analysis for a given sport/athlete and design a suitable training program tailored to improving specific components of fitness
5. Search for and critically-appraise scientific literature
6. Gather relevant information relating to a topic
7. Analyse and assess the credibility of ideas, arguments and information
