Description The aim of this module is to introduce students to the profession of an Athletic Therapy and Training (ATT). The module will discuss the role of an ATT and the sports medicine team in a sporting and occupational setting. The students will learn about maintaining appropriate documentation, reporting injury rates, implementation of the FMS as a pre-participation screening, general medical conditions and the application of individual needs of an athlete during injury assessments and rehabilitation. In addition, the students will learn skills to successfully obtain the qualification including referencing, writing skills and searching current literature. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Outline the role of an ATT and the sports medicine team in the sporting and occupational setting. 2. Compare and contrast the epidemiology of injury in differing sports. 3. Identify the challenges to managing, treating and applying individual needs of each athlete to an injury. 4. Outline appropriate documentation required by an ATT and identify the principles of evidence based practice. 5. Outline the general medical conditions that can occur in the sporting population. 6. Injury assessment How to conduct an injury assessment as an ATT/Athletic Therapist Introduction to Documentation Documentation as an ATT/Athletic Therapist. Injury incidence and specific sports Capturing injuries, Calculating and reporting Injury rates, Injuries, common locations, types and severity in different sports. Evidence Based Practice Evidence Based Practice as an ATT/Athletic Therapist. The FMS pre-participation screening assessment tool Completing the FMS pre-participation screening assessment tool in the clinical, sporting and workplace environments. Considerations for individual athletes/teams The female athlete (Issues with the menstrual cycle – amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, Exercising when pregnant, Menopause, Eating disorders in sport), The disabled athlete.
