Description The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the role of the Athletic Therapist and Trainer, as part of the multidisciplinary team, in the management of injuries in physically active populations. Topics covered will include soft tissue healing, the principles and techniques of clinical assessment of lower limb musculoskeletal injuries with a view to making an accurate diagnosis and an initial management plan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Describe and demonstrate the process of taking a history from a patient with a lower limb injury. 2. Discuss the role of the Athletic Therapist and Trainer, as part of the multidisciplinary team, in the management of a patient. 3. Describe the stages of healing associated with a musculoskeletal injury. 4. Describe the epidemiology, typical mechanisms, signs and symptoms and problems associated with musculoskeletal injuries of the lower limb. 5. Clinically examine the lower limbs. 6. Use principles of logic and problem solving in clinically examining a patient with an injury of the lower limb. 7.
