Module Title Applied Anatomy and Neuroanatomy
Module Code TRE1019
Faculty Science & Health School Health & Human Performance
NFQ level 9 Credit Rating 5
Description

Building on pre' requisite knowledge of human anatomy, this module focuses on the practical application of anatomical knowledge to professional physiotherapy practice. Through theoretical and practical learning, students will explore the structure and function of the neuromuscular system, with an emphasis on the application of biomechanical and anatomical principles in the clinical assessment and rehabilitation.

Learning Outcomes

1. On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Apply knowledge of anatomy to accurately palpate surface bony, ligamentous, articular and muscular structures.
2. On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Apply biomechanical principles to analyse posture, movement patterns and muscle function during activities.
3. On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Demonstrate competency and skill in muscle strength and joint motion assessment and interpretation of findings.
4. On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Describe in detail the structure and function of key anatomical areas of the central (brain, spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system.
5. On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Explain how the nervous system is organised to support sensory input, motor output and integration of information for human function.
