Module Aims
· to promote oral fluency at native-speaker level· to highlight some of the more difficult areas of syntax and vocabulary associated with advanced fluency· to develop students' awareness of register and appropriate language in spoken situations.· to improve and develop oral presentation skills.

Learning Outcomes
· the student should be able to participate effectively in discussions and defend a point of view coherently· have an acceptable standard of pronunciation and intonation· deliver a well planned and researched oral presentation · acquire appropriate oral summarising and reporting skills.

Assume that a 5 credit module load represents approximately 75 hours' work, which includes all teaching, in-course assignments, laboratory work or other specialised training and an estimated private learning time associated with the module.

Indicative Syllabus
Students will be provided with a list of discussion topics at the beginning of the course. In the early weeks, one topic per session will usually be dealt with. Participants will be encouraged to divide up into groups and the initial emphasis will be in promoting fluency. The emphasis will then shift to techniques of oral presentation, leading towards the preparation and delivery of a talk by each group. There will be a revaluation of oral presentation skills before the final assessment consisting of the oral presentation.
