7To provide an understanding of the concept of community as a focus for healthcare delivery throughout the life span. 7To explore from a general nursing perspective the concept of community based healthcare and the nurse's responsibility and practice in relation to community nursing.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes: On completion of this module and following a period of personal study the student will be able to: 7Discuss and analyse the contribution of community healthcare to lifespan development. 7Explore the concept of primary healthcare. 7Critically examine health inequalities and its impact on population groups 7Critically analyse the contribution of epidemiology to community nursing practice 7Evaluate healthcare structures in the community and the importance of intersectoral communication and collaboration. 7Debate current healthcare policy and its impact for nursing.

·The concept of community. ·Community nursing and approaches to care. ·The general nurse's responsibility and practice in relation to community nursing. ·The concept of primary health care. ·Inequalities in health. ·Lifespan development including, family planning, peri-natal care, breast feeding, child development, well-man, well-woman, screening and care of the elderly. ·Epidemiology, infectious diseases and immunisation strategies. ·Identification of risk and risk management in the community. ·Healthcare structures, multidisciplinary team working and intersectoral collaboration ·Nursing in a multicultural society. ·National health care policy
