· To provide skill in utilising library and computer scientific information.· To teach methods of collating, analysing and compiling a review on a chosen subject.

Learning Outcomes
Students should gain:· A knowledge on searching scientific information on computer.· Use of library periodicals and books.· An understanding of scientific information relating to chosen subject.· The ability to condense collected scientific information into a short review.

Indicative Syllabus
The student will choose from a variety of research topics provided by the academic staff of the School of Biological Sciences at the start of semester 1.Student will develop a number of skills which will be important in almost any discipline or professional activity, including the ability to:· Locate and retrieve relevant (scientific) information from a variety of sources, books, journals and the internet· Organise information in a logically, structured and coherent fashion with reference to specified objectives.· Critically evaluate and compare information · Present information in a clear and concise manner, while adhereing to the conventions of scientific writing and the relevant format guidelines provided.· The literature review should be approximately 30 pages in length and contain complete index, short summary, introduction specific sections, conclusion and bibliography.
