Module Aims
The aim of this module is to enable the student to develop an understanding of child development and begin to incorporate their knowledge and skills into nursing care.

Learning Outcomes
?On completion of this module, and following a period of personal study, students will be able to: ?Describe the processes of growth and development ?Discuss the importance of play and education in childhood ?Describe the childhood immunization schedule ?Discuss safety issues relating to children ?Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the assessment and care of the healthy newborn infant. ?Have an understanding of Enquiry Based Learning

·Growth and development- embryology and foetal, developmental milestones, methods of developmental assessment ·Psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, moral and language development throughout the lifespan ·The importance of play and education in childhood· UN Convention on the right of the child. ·The healthy newborn - immediate care/examination and subsequent care, metabolic screening ·Nutritional needs of children, principles of feeding infants, toddlers and children. ·Elimination, sleep patterns of children. ·Philosophy of enquiry based learning· Immunisation schedule ·Safety issues for the healthy child / introduction to child protection
