Module Aims

- Enhance knowledge and understanding of research designs 

-   Develop critical analysis of research designs

- Develop critical skills in literature reviewing 

- Acquire skills necessary to develop a research proposals



Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module and following a period of personal study it is intended that the student will be able to:

Formulate researchable research questions

Critically discuss qualitative and quantitative research methods

Demonstrate ability to critique research designs

Critically discuss methodological rigour

Demonstrate understanding and application of the principles of literature reviewing

Show understanding of the principles of reporting and disseminating research findings

Evaluate research utilisation and application in everyday nursing practice

Indicative Syllabus

Throughout this module the student will be encouraged to explore and analyse the nature of research in nursing and health care.  Key concepts, which are said to underpin the research process in nursing, will be examined. The notion of research and knowledge development in a practice discipline will be addressed.

 

The module can be broadly seen to cover the following topics:

·         Literature review

·         Research designs

·         Sampling process for qualitative and quantitative approaches

·         Data analysis techniques

·         Using research in nursing practice

·         Disseminating research findings

·         Developing a research proposal
