Module Aims
To develop the ability to access relevant scientific information from the primary literature, collate the information and write an overview of the subject chosen.

Learning Outcomes

To use chemical/analytical abstracts to access required information on a
given subject.

  • To understand information contained in the primary literature pertaining to a given subject and determine its relative importance.
  • To collate information and write a cohesive and fully referenced (including any web sources) scientific report (of 5,000 - 6,000 original words) on a given subject.  Students should familiarise themselves with the university regulations on plagiarism which are available at
