Module Aims
|
For Students wishing to develop their skills in digital audio production this module provides training in the use of professional software packages.

Learning Outcomes
|
Students taking this module will:
* Be technically adept at using digital audio editing software including ProTools TDM systems;
* Further develop their technical and creative production skills;
* Be capable of integrating sound and music into a variety of multimedia environments
Understand the technical and production considerations impacting on the provision of new digital media.

* Overview of key skill sets and techniques to be acquired;
* ProTools TDM - an introduction to the key packages, capabilities and organisation;
* Sound production for digital media; an overview - an explanation of the acronyms, roles and responsibilities.
Recording Hardware:
* Storage media, microphones and the recording console - working in the digital environment;
* The digital console - digital recording principles and layout.
Digital Recording Studios:
* ProTools studio;
* Tool kits, effects and editing techniques - an overview;
* Advanced sound editing and manipulation - tools and techniques;
* Equalisation, compression and other effects.
Mixing Sound:
* The significance of mixing - an overview;
* Mixing techniques for audio recordings;
* Planning and developing a mix - strategies and techniques;
* Mixing music - pronciples and practices;
* Models for music mix;
* Creating and mixing ambient sounds.
Synchronisation:
* Synching audio to other digital media - principles, techniques and practices;
* Using time code;
* Mixing for mixed media.
Digital Aesthetics:
* The aesthetics of sound - an overview;
* Trends in sound recording and design;
* The beauty of analogue;
* Creating analogue effects using digital media.
