Module Aims
  •         To examine the evidence and principles of care management of patients with or being investigated for cardiovascular, respiratory and urological /renal conditions. To enable the student to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care of the above patient groups



Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module and following a period of personal study the student will:
• Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing management of patients with cardiovascular, respiratory and urological /renal conditions.
• Demonstrate ability in the clinical skills deemed necessary for the nursing management of the above patient/client groups.
• Demonstrate an ability to support patients and families in their experience of ill health
• Explore the nurses’ role in health promotion in relation to the patients with cardiovascular, respiratory and urological /renal conditions.
• Discuss the role of the multidisciplinary team in relation to patients with disorders of cardiovascular, respiratory and urological /renal conditions. 
• Explore the contribution of theoretical models of nursing to the delivery of nursing care in respect of the above patient/client groups.

Indicative Syllabus

-Physiological, social and psychological aspects of disease and conditions affecting the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system and the urology system.

-In respect of the above patient/client groups:

-Assessment strategies, care planning and delivery techniques, evaluation of care.

-The contribution of theoretical approaches to care.

-Relevant cognitive, affective and psycho-motor skills.

-Pharmaceutical interventions.

-Multi-disciplinary contribution.

-Relevant health promotion issues and strategies.

-Medical, Surgical and pharmaceutical interventions.
