Module Aims
This module introduces students to sociology and show how a sociological analysis is useful for understanding the ways in which people differently experience physical education and sport in society. An understanding of different perspectives will be developed through learning a range of sociological theories.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module it is intended that the student will be able to:?

  • Discuss sociology as a social science.
  • Discuss the major theories, concepts and theoretical approaches in sociology.
  • Have a working knowledge of current literature in sociology in relation to Ireland
  • Understand and assess the role of physical education and sport in society.
  • Discuss how the major social theories analyse and impact on physical education and sport in society.
