  • To provide skill in utilising library and computer scientific information.
  • To teach methods of collating, analysing and compiling a review on a chosen subject.

Students should gain:·

  • A knowledge on searching scientific information on computer.
  • Use of library periodicals and books.· An understanding of scientific information relating to chosen subject.
  • The ability to condense collected scientific information into a short review

Indicative Syllabus

The student will choose from a variety of research topics provided by the academic staff of the School of Biological Sciences at the start of semester

Student will develop a number of skills which will be important in almost any discipline or professional activity, including the ability to:·

  • Locate and retrieve relevant (scientific) information from a variety of sources, books, journals and the internet·
  • Organise information in a logically, structured and coherent fashion with reference to specified objectives.·
  • Critically evaluate and compare information ·
  • Present information in a clear and concise manner, while adhereing to the conventions of scientific writing and the relevant format guidelines provided.·
  • The literature review should be approximately 30 pages in length and contain complete index, short summary, introduction specific sections, conclusion and bibliography.
