Level 1 Credit Rating 5
Pre-requisite None
Co-requisite None
Module Aims
Aims is to show students the interdisciplinary nature of science and the inter-dependence of all areas of science and mathematics in 'real' science.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate group work skills
  • Use their understanding gained in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and chemistry in an integrated way to analyse simple 'real-life' problems
  • Search information sources (textbooks, library, internet) to find additional source material for solution of problems
  • Discuss how they solved the problems posed
  • To present their findings clearly, using Word, Excel, Powerpoint as appropriate.

NOTE
Assume that a 5 credit module load represents approximately 75 hours' work, which includes all teaching, in-course assignments, laboratory work or other specialised training and an estimated private learning time associated with the module.

Indicative Syllabus

Syllabus covers three areas:

1.One workshop will be devoted to group skills and problem-solving skills

2.Each student in small groups will be involved in solving a number of problem senarios (typically 5 or 6) that are multidisciplinary involving physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.

3.Each group will carry out an interdisciplinary project and present their findings.
