Module Aims
This module aims to facilitate students in considering the various historical developments in Irish Education and to allow students come to an understanding of the historical origins of the current structure of the Irish Education system. It allows examines the structural and legislative framework within which the Irish education system operates and the evolution of curricular provision within the Irish education system. Finally it supports analyse of current and future trends in Irish education

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to…
  1. Identify the way in which the different sectors of Irish education evolved historically
  2. Describe the role of key stakeholders in the development of Irish education
  3. Distinguish between the historical development and structural reality of the Irish primary, secondary, tertiary and further education sectors
  4. Explain how the structural and legislative framework within which the Irish education system operates
  5. Analyse the factors influencing curriculum developments in the Irish education system
  6. Analyse current and future trends in education
