Module Aims

This module sets the level A2-B1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as its minimum exit level. It aims to

  • raise language awareness
  • develop students' knowledge of German through a particular emphasis on the Verb Phrase
  • consolidate productive, receptive and intercultural skills through a focus on three specified cultural/ social themes.
  • strengthen students' abilities to determine and reflect on their progress and take responsibility for their language learning.
  • assist students in the effective setting of learning goals, planning of learning and time management.


Learning Outcomes

 

The learning outcomes of this module relate to language skills, intercultural competences, transferable skills and learning to learn.

On completion of this module students will be able to

  • show increased confidence as an autonomous language students at 3rd level and an increased sense of responsibility for their learning
  • demonstrate language awareness (including familiarity with linguistic terminology) and comprehensive knowledge of the German Verb Phrase
  • demonstrate the ability to work effectively on language and cultural matters both in a team and as an individual (orally and in writing)
  • engage with texts, both written and audio, from different genres and contexts (on the three selected themes)
  • to produce a variety of cohesive texts with accurate use of key grammatical items and appropriate vocabulary
  • The ability to speak cohesively in simple and accurate terms about themes covered in this module.
