To uncover the key assumptions and doctrines underpinning the conduct of Irish foreign policy. To explore the Irish foreign policy formulation process. To examine the key bilateral and multi-lateral external engagements of the Irish state since independence. To discuss current and future foreign policy dilemmas in the light of Ireland's experience. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Students should have a good general grasp of key aspects of Irish foreign policy since independence, of the dynamics of foreign policy formulation, and of emerging issues for Ireland in European and international affairs.
