Module Aims

Module Aims:

  • To build on the knowledge gained in Health and Fitness 1 (SS102).
  • To provide an understanding of integrated training for sport performance.
  • To plan and have theoretical support for training programme development.
  • To apply knowledge to the design and implementation of an individual training programme.
  • To introduce the theory, practice and methods of assessment of strength, power, speed, agility and anaerobic capacity.
  • To provide an understanding of the theory and practice of advanced weight lifting techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

After successful completion of the course students will have a greater understanding of:

  • Planning and preparation - needs analysis, goal setting, performance profiling and developing an annual plan.
  • Principles of periodisation and development of periodised training programmes.
  • The theory and practice relating to strength, power, speed, agility and anaerobic capacity.
  • The principles of measurement of a number of physical fitness components and have the capacity to carry out a number of basic assessments .
  • The execution and instruction of advanced resistance training exercises.
  • The role of recovery and regeneration in the training cycle.
  • Weight regulation and making weight strategies.
