Module Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts, theories and theoretical frameworks of sociology. This will contribute to her/his understanding of society.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module it is intended that the student will be able to:

  • Discuss sociology as a social science.
  • Discuss the major theories, concepts and theoretical approaches in sociology.
  • Have a working knowledge of current literature in sociology in relation to Ireland.
  • Acquire a foundation for the module Sociology of Sport 1 in year 2.
