Module Aims
„X To introduce students to various aspects of Chinese culture. „X To describe and analyse essential aspects of Chinese history and contemporary Chinese society with reference to core cultural values, e.g. Confucianism and Taoism.„X To prepare students for their year in China.„X To provide an insight into the daily customs and manners of the Chinese and the ways in which these cultural expressions reflect deeper cultural values of Chinese society. These include: General comparisons of the ways of thinking and their reflections on social lives in China and the West. Chinese architectural heritage: palaces, temples and private gardens; Fengshui of buildings. Chinese art: calligraphy, painting and sculpture. Contemporary society and daily life (food, costumes, customs, gestures and habits, entertainment and festivals).

Learning Outcomes
„X To familiarise the student with important developments in Chinese history and society.„X To enable the students to research a chosen area of interest in China-related topic. „X Intercultural awareness.„X To familiarise the student with the main cultural differences that exist between Ireland and China.
