Module Aims
|
This course explores some of the available scientific and technological approaches to resedarch in organisations. It provides prescriptive guidelines for conducting research and describes the research process as it is regularly carried out by W/O psychologists. Trained researchers in this field gather quantitative or qualitative data and utilize rigorous standards for assessing whether explanations of intended changes and systematic actions are in fact accurate.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course the students should -7 Show scientific inquiry skills to assess the effectiveness of any psychological solution to an organisational problem.7 Formulate rigorous explanations for what they have researched.7 Demonstrate a capacity for understanding and applying the results of their research or of that research done by others.

Indicative Syllabus
|
¿ "Inside" view of the research process in organisations: background to the choice of research topic and data collection, the negotiation of access to respondents/informants; fieldwork successes and problems; the relationship between initial project objectives and the final outcome; the coordination of the research team activities. ¿ Measurment methods: questionnaires and structured interviews, tests, Q-sorting, unobtrusive measures. ¿ Experimental and quasi-experimental methods ¿ Surveys and inventories among employees and customers ¿ Qualitative research ¿ Case study and action research ¿ Archival and protocol analysis ¿ Secondary analysis of already existing data ¿ Structured and systematic observation ¿ Simulation Studies ¿ Micro-computer usage and software packages: SPSSpc, Systat, D-Base IV, Lotus ¿ The role of values and ethical issues in organisational research ¿ Empirical research strategies and issues.
