Description The purpose of this module is for the students to become familiar with setting up and managing network equipment and software as well as various servers used in modern enterprise computing environments. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. download and successfully install Linux packages. 2. download and install Virtual Machines. 3. properly install and configure dynamic routing software such as RIP on Linux machines. 4. correctly utilise static addresses for routing. 5. troubleshoot incorrectly configured routers, examine routing tables and analyse network traffic using traffic capture tools. 6. implement Linux bridging and have an appreciation of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP). 7. distinguish between the various types of firewalls, have an appreciation of practical network security and be able to use iptables to perform packet filtering on a LAN. 8. set up and configure servers for HTTP, DNS, DHCP and SSH. 9. utilise applications of SNMP and the MIB, SNMP traps and applications of SNMP for network configuration and management. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
