Description

The purpose of this module is to introduce participants to research methods for reviewing analytical topics. In this module students will develop knowledge and skills in literature research methods in an analytical chemistry context. The participants will also develop their presentation and communication skills. The approach taken in this module is primarily tutorial based. The participants research two given analytical topics using high quality research methods. These must be presented in a scientifc manner in written form, orally and via poster presentation. Overall, this module provides a platform to allow the participant to develop the skill of literature research as well as scientific presentation. Students are expected to interact with their assigned supervisor via the scheduled tutorials, contribute to class presentations, utilise the academic library resources provided by DCU for preparation of their assignments.

Learning Outcomes

1. Research an analytical problem using high quality research information including peer-reviewed academic journals
2. Understand, critique and summarise research articles in analytical chemistry
3. Analyse and present information and data relating to an analytical problem
4. Write a comprehensive literature review on analytical chemistry research
5. Write proficiently in a scientific manner
6. Present findings orally on a literature revew based on analytical chemistry
7. Discuss research findings in a scientific manner during a presentation
8. Present findings via a poster presentation on an analytical research topic
