Description

This module sets the level A2-B1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as its minimum exit level. It aims to enable students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the German noun phrase and in so doing further develop language awareness and accuracy in their active and passive use of German. By focussing on selected cultural, social and political themes it also aims to develop effective information retrieval and communicative/presentation skills and to enhance both cultural and intercultural understanding. Students will be guided in the use of language learning strategies and transferable skills.

Learning Outcomes

1. Recognise, describe and explain the conventions of the German noun phrase.
2. Apply the conventions of the German noun phrase in written and spoken discourse relating to a specified number of themes.
3. Retrieve information on a cultural, social or political theme from a variety of both spoken and written German language sources.
4. Interact with native-speakers of German in the context of completing a survey/ interviews.
5. Prepare and deliver a group presentation orally and in writing on intercultural perspectives on the selected theme.
6. Produce a written text justifying his/ her stance on a topic of cultural/social/political relevance.
