Syllabus
The first 5 weeks of the module will focus on the development of reading skills and expansion of vocabulary, using an elementary German reader. The class will then discuss a selection of short literary texts and/or a film illustrating debates and issues which have marked the development of postwar Germany: the legacy of World War II, the division into two states, the economic miracle and affluent society, and the process and effects of reunification. The final examination will test both elements of the course.
