Description This module will- 1. introduce the student to the formats by which scientific knowledge is stored and the methods by which it can be retrieved. 2. how to conduct comprehensive and focus literature research into specific topics. 3. To introduce the conventions used in scientific writing. 4. To explain plagiarism and to instill an appreciation of the ethical aspects of scientific writing. 5. To develop the skills required for effective oral presentation of scientific information. Learning Outcomes The student will learn how to conduct a scientific literature search, how to structure and reference scientific writing and how to verbally communicate scientific information. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. To develop the ability to access relevant up-to-date, scientific information from the primary literature, collate the information and write an overview of the subject chosen. 2. To use printed and electronic primary and secondary sources to access information on a given subject. 3. To collate information and write a comprehensive review on a given subject. 4. To understand and be able to extract appropriate information from selected journal articles etc. and understand its relative importance. 5. To develop scientific writing skills and the ability to critically analyse research material. 6.
