Description

This module considers the nature of faith and the journey of faith for the individual within the Christian community in contemporary society. The meaning and significance of evangelisation, catechesis and faith development in Ireland today will be investigated. Both adult faith development and the sharing of faith with young people will be addressed.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstarte a knowledge and understanding of a number of illustrative themes in Theology in the context of Lifelong Education
2. Identify and reflect upon the sources and traditions which have defined Christianity making guided use of a diversity of primary and secondary sources
3. Critique the intellectual foundations of theology, adult learning and religious education
4. Demonstrated an ability to organise and communicate their understanding of theological and educational issues through written assignments
5. Critically reflect upon the dialogue between their own life experience and the Christian tradition
6. Engage in personal theological reflection in a manner that is appreciative of the theological and educational worldviews of others

Issues in faith today and in faith development, through analysis of the General Directory for Catechesis (1997) and the Draft National Directory for Catechesis (2008)

The significance for faith development of the social, cultural and ecclesial context in ireland today

Various theologies of faith, clarifying issues associated with personal and community crises of faith in the 21st century

Situating the Directories and our response to them with Scripture, the catechetical tradition and faith education needs perceived as significant today

Planning, resourcing and implementation issues for faith development in the local Church in Dublin and in other dioceses today
