To provide a basic understanding of pharmacology and biopharmacology. To investigate certain pharmacological analytical methods To investigate immunological analysis methods and applications

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
2. Distinguish between pharmacology and biopharmacology
3. Differentiate between chemical and biochemical drug analysis
4. Illustrate advanced analytical/bioanalytical techniques for pharma/biopharma separations
5. Describe key advanced techniques in immunoanalysis and their applications
6. Discriminate between the correct choices of antibodies for relevant applications
7. Understand the importance of quality control and ethics in the design of assays and therapies based on antibodies
8. Develop new ideas for use of antibodies

Administration of drugs & drug delivery systems Drug Metabolism (phase I & phase II inactivation of drugs) Introduction to BioPharmacology CZE Analysis of pharma/biopharma drugs NMR Analysis of biochemical biopharma drugs Mass Spec analysis of drug molecules Production, isolation and characterisation of antibodies Chimaeric, humanised, human and bifunctional antibodies and their uses Genetics of antibody production-Tumour detection, imaging and treatment using immunological approaches Preparation of antibody/enzyme, antibody/drug and carrier-drug conjugated Immunological method development for antigen detection and disease diagnosis-Immunocytochemistry Biosensors Biochips and arrays and their applications-Case studies in immunoanalysis
