Description

An introduction to Irish drama of the late 19th and 20th century through both a national and an international lens, reading Irish plays comparatively with the texts, playwrights and dramatic movements of Europe and America.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand how the Irish theatre has developed both nationally and internationally
2. Perform comparative and close analysis of a range of plays and theatrical styles
3. Discuss the significance of theatre in cultural and political terms
4. Relate drama to historical developments
5. Appreciate the diversity of theatrical traditions in aptly problematic terms
