Description

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the key concepts associated with General Nursing and to facilitate the development of a General Nursing identity. Students will be expected to attend lectures on selected themes in General Nursing and to participate in groupwork activities related to the module focus.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify different contexts where General Nursing is delivered.
2. Discuss the core principles of General Nursing in a variety of settings.
3. Discuss the impact of physical illness on the patient, the family and the community
4. Describe frameworks used in the organisation and delivery of General Nursing care
5. Identify mechanisms that develop nursing knowledge and support evidence-based practice.

Lecture20Face to face engagement with lecturer in class.
Directed learning50Directed self-learning incorporating preparation for module assessment by way of a group abstract preparation and delivery of a group presentation. Students will negotiate groupwork activities/workload allocation, preparation and retrieval of appropriate evidence to underpin presentation and formulate collectively a group abstract and subsequent presentation.
Independent Study55Following a period of personal reflection the individual student may determine this time is afforded to the pursuit of activities motivated towards attaining module learning outcomes including engagement with online module resources, recommended reading and other opportunistic learning activities.
