Description

This module introduces the student to the ethical and medico-legal principles, guidelines, codes of behaviour and statutory regulations that govern professional medical practice. In addition, students will learn about how to conduct a clinical consultation

Learning Outcomes

1. identify key ethical issues raised in the health care of injured athletes
2. discuss the major ethical theories and principles
3. apply ethical reasoning skills when dealing with ethical issues in the health care of injured and non-injured athletes
4. list the main medico-legal concepts that govern the behaviour of health care professionals in Ireland
5. discuss the principles of keeping medical records
6. define and discuss consent in the context of health care
7. discuss the issues that arise in relation to confidentiality in health care
8. discuss the major models that describe the aims and components of the clinical consultation
