Description

This module will consider the relationship between theory and practice in Religious Education and the Elective area. It considers the relationship between teacher, learner and methodology with a particular focus on the primary school. The module seeks to enhance the student teacher's ability to apply a range of activity based methods to the teaching of Religious Education and the Elective.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of key themes and concepts in Religious Education and the Elective (English, History or Music) at Primary level.
2. Evaluate, using internal and external criteria, a range of teaching methodologies for Religious Education and the Elective.
3. Organise and communicate their research in the design and planning of appropriate content and resources for teaching Religious Education and the Elective at Primary level within the context of the diverse needs of learners.
4. Identify and communicate the key words and key spelling associated with a particular topic/theme in RE and the elective.

Context
An initial exploration of the socio-cultural context of primary school classroom (e.g. interculturalism; gender; interreligious; diverse needs of learners; special educational needs).

Content
An exploration of key themes and concepts in Religious Education and English, History orMusic in the Primary school.

Planning
The design and planning of schemes of work and lesson plans for Religious Education and the Elective for Primary school pupils.

Methodology
The consideration and application of the embedded, experiential and expository methodologies in the Primary school classroom.

Assessment
Design, planning and implementation of appropriate forms of assessment for Primary school pupils.

Resources
Investigation, exploration, design and delivery of appropriate av, electronic and textual resources for Religious Education and the Elective (Primary level).
