Description

Students undertake a placement in an allocated primary school. This school based placement consists of two components. Firstly, students complete a Context and Engagement week in their placement school at the end of semester one. Secondly, students are required to complete a two week (10 days) school based placement on dates specified in the academic calendar. Over the course of the placement, students teach both Religious Education and the Elective subject (English or History or Music) to either 4th, 5th or 6th class groups.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate appropriate core teacher skills as set out in the Student Teacher Skills Progression Path (see Student Teacher School Placement Handbook and Year 1 Teacher Skills Observation Instrument for full breakdown of Teacher Skills Progression Path for Year 1).
2. Establish and maintain an e-file for each Religious Education and the Elective subject.
3. Maintain a daily hard copy School Placement File according to the requirements set out in the Student Teacher Handbook.
4. Demonstrate knowledge about the placement setting. Engage in the teaching and non teaching activities of the school.
5. Engage in guided reflective practice (see Weekly Reflective Statements METIS).
