Description

The purpose of this first year module is to provide students with the basic skills needed to participate in and arrange fieldwork and to apply skills developed in class. Students will be introduced to key fieldwork skills including fieldwork planning and design, participation (including Health and Safety), and accurate acquisition of data, utilisation of fieldwork equipment, interpretation, analysis and reporting of data. Key skills including: field journaling; landscape observation; geomorphological mapping; surveying (both landscape survey and questionnaires); field sketching; GPS; GIS; measuring and photographing. Students will participate in fieldwork activities and will be encouraged to apply skills and knowledge to real world situations. Students are expected to attend and engage in the module.

2. Observe, map, measure, record, transfer, analyse and report geographic data and information
3. Use field equipment including GPS, Opisometer, clinometer and others to acquire data
4. Display teamwork, negotiation and interpersonal skills
5. Explore methods used to observe, acquire, analyse and report geographic information
