Description This module focuses on the evolving field of psychotherapy supervision. Candidates will engage in a robust study and critical discussion of the dominant modes, conceptual and theory bound models underpinning psychotherapy supervision. The findings from qualitative and quantitative research studies examining approaches, processes, relationships and efficacy in supervision will be critically analysed. Philosophies of supervision will be considered. Ethical and professional issues will be illuminated and considered in the context of real world psychotherapy supervision practice. The emphasis in this module is on academic, practical, professional and personal development with respect to psychotherapy supervision. Through independent study and engagement in psychotherapy supervision and supervision consultation, candidates will engage in a depth of professional and personal reflection as well as critical appraisal about their own and other’s perspectives on psychotherapy supervision. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Critically discuss the efficacy of dominant conceptual models of psychotherapy supervision 2. Articulate and debate the strengths and limitations of theory bound approaches in psychotherapy supervision 3. Integrate and operationalise conceptual and theory bound supervision model(s) 4. Critically analyse national and international qualitative and quantitative supervision research studies and articulate the potential contribution these make to psychotherapy supervision 5. Identify and make an informed response to ethical and professional issues as they emerge in real world supervisory practice 6. Take a position on the philosophical positions, conceptual and theory bound model(s) that inform and influence one’s supervisory practice 7.
